But before we get to it, you should know that Samsung made some tweaks to the names of its smartwatches. During its last Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Samsung abandoned the “Active” moniker, and subsequent smartwatches in that series will be called “Galaxy Watch4“. The successor to the Galaxy Watch 3 will be called the “Galaxy Watch4 Classic“ and will come with a bezel, just like the Galaxy Watch 3. Design

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic features some very notable design changes from the Galaxy Watch 3. While the buttons are still located on the right edge, just like the Galaxy Watch 3, they are designed a little differently: they are flatter and more elongated. The Galaxy Watch 3, on the other hand, features circular protruding nubs.

Software

The Galaxy Watch 3 is powered by Samsung’s own operating system, Tizen OS. However, Samsung has now partnered with Google and all of Samsung’s smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 4, are now powered by Google’s Wear OS. The importance of this upgrade is that the new Google OS is that it opens the door to a larger app library for Samsung smartwatch users than Tizen. The Galaxy Watch 3 features 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage space, which we felt was more than enough for apps and offline music files, at the time. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, on the other hand, is packed with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, to cover the extra apps that’ll come with the Wear OS. When the Galaxy Watch 3 launched a year ago, it was the premium smartwatch from Samsung and it sold for $399. The new Galaxy Watch 4 Classic starts at $350, $49 lower.
