Material design also codenamed quantum paper is Google’s next design language that was first announced at this year’s Google I/O event. The design paradigm is being used in Google’s latest mobile Operating System, Android 5.0 also known as Lollipop which is currently available as a developer preview. The design follows a much cleaner design approach that follows increased use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows. These design aspects can be seen in Google’s Gmail 5.0 app, Newsstand 3.3.1 as well as other Google’s products such as  Google Drive, Google Keep and Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Gmail 5.0 comes with multiple inbox support and also integrates with third party non-Gmail email providers such as Yahoo, Outlook as well as other IMAP and POP compliant email services. So you can access your Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook emails all in one App.

If you can’t wait for the final Android Lollipop roll-out that will come with these updates, you can download the APK of the apps signed by Google which also upgrade your existing Apps. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Before you install the APK on your device perhaps using a USB cable, don’t forget to check “uninstall applications from unknown sources” in the settings.
