The startup claims to have  over 100 bus operators on board giving users the option of boarding buses based on boarding points, timing and bus type. Users who wish to book tickets online simply visit the Startup’s website. You’ll be required to enter your destination from some pre-selected entries and departure time. The price of the bus ticket is the same as you would get from the bus operator too. However, the company says additional convenience charge and mobile money rates may apply. The actual ticket is sent to you by sms or by email, if you provided an email address.  Bookings can also be done over the phone to 256bus’s customer care or over the counter at affiliate travel agents. According Tebandeke Joseph, CEO, 256bus.com, his online bus ticket platform will save passengers time they would otherwise spend booking tickets offline while for the bus companies, the platform helps them concentrate on their core business; “256bus.com is a win-win concept for both passengers and bus operators. Passengers save time that is usually wasted going to bus company offices to book tickets in advance. Bus companies get assured customers, and hence focus on fleet management, customer care and time management. Bus travel should not be any different from travel by air.” The Startup currently supports a wide array of payment options that include Credit & Debit card, Internet banking (Internet enabled online bank account), Cash-on-delivery (available in select major cities) and Mobile Money.
